Tracy Allen
I studied textiles and printed textiles at college and Farnham Art College (now part of the University for Creative Arts), focusing on costume. My training remained a leisure activity whilst I worked in another field then, after 10 years and when starting my family, I qualified in embroidery and millinery techniques and began to combine all disciplines, producing garments, costumes and three dimensional structures. For the past 11 years I have been teaching on mixed textiles and theatre costume extended diploma courses at Warwickshire College.
My own work is often inspired by theatrical and performance themes, referencing cultural textile and historical costume techniques. My work features hand dyed and printed fabrics, embellished with surface decoration, fabric manipulation and embroidery by hand and machine.
