Sarah Showers

I am a fabric addict. I have stitched and created textiles since a small child and know that working with fabric, thread, stitch and colour make me who I am.
My website provides detailed, up to date information about what I am doing and aspects of design that interest me.

My primary interest is in 2D stitched work. I love the addition of hand stitch to my work, enjoying the physical contact with my creation and the slower process of embellishment that working by hand provides. There is great peace in the close study of the action of thread on the fabric.
My work is abstract. I enjoy rendering place in abstract form, taking the essence of a location at a particular time and making a study that speaks to me of my inspiration. It's a very personal interpretation which a casual observer may not understand. It is the colours and the feel of the place which most influence the study.
I am fortunate to be a member of two other textile groups with whom I exhibit and collaborate.
Art 2 Stitch are a larger Midlands based group of Quilters Guild Contemporary Quilters who largely work on their own practice but share skills and approaches and tutor each other in areas we want to develop. This loose group provides a stress free way of trying out new ideas and supporting each other to develop our individual practice.
'Aspects of Stitch' are a sizeable group of stitchers who meet each month, enjoy speakers and demonstrations and work on our own creative projects. I participate in their Travelling Books. We each choose a theme and set up an 8" square sketchbook with resource material and create a piece of stitched work inspired by the resource material. This is then passed on to the next person in the group who then adds a piece also based on the themed resources. Meanwhile each month I receive a different book and make a piece based on the theme of the book I receive.
I have exhibited in Europe as well as nationally in the UK and contribute to our group exhibitions.
