Philippa Laughton
I have had a love of stitch since an early age.
More recently I have spent time exploring tweed as a textile art material. However, it is hand embroidery that really interests me so I have changed focus to concentrate on that.
I decided to enrol at the Royal School of Needlework (RSN), based at Hampton Court Palace, on their technical Certificate and Diploma programme. So far, I have completed the Certificate. For the Certificate I covered Crewel Work, Canvas Work, Silk Shading and Goldwork. As well as being awarded a Merit I received a prize as the student with the highest standard of Mounting across all four pieces.
I am now working on the Diploma and have completed three, of the six modules, covering Applique, Blackwork and Stumpwork. I have nearly completed my Whitework module and have Advanced Silk Shading and Advanced Goldwork to go.
I carry on with Patchwork and Quilting when I feel I should make a present for relatives. I keep those designs simple but use the fabric to achieve an interesting lookI am a member of Connecting Threads (Elstree) and London Quilters in addition to “all Threaded Together”. I was also a trustee of the Royal School of Needlework for six years until 2015.The images below cover my completed Royal School of Needlework modules and recent patchwork. www.philippalaughton.com
