All Threaded Together A Little Derngate Challenge.
After our visit to Derngate and taking lots of photographs we decided to give ourselves an extra challenge for the exhibition. What would happen if we all had the same fabrics but we each made a piece inspired by 78 Derngate ? All the same but different. But with rules !
So the challenge was to create a small 7” square using a pack of fabrics and trims that were exactly the same in size and colours. We had to use a bit of each fabric and trim and a bit of the mount board that was included. We didn’t need to use all of each piece but had to use a tiny fragment of everything – even the white ribbon which was a challenge in its self. We could use our own choice of threads, wadding and backing. We were allowed to add beads, paints or foils to embellish. We could use any techniques that suited the piece. Hand or machine stitch.
The rules stated that we were not allowed to add any other fabric or trims that were not in the packs. Strictly nothing else !
The piece needed to be bound in some way and would be mounted and framed so all would be displayed together in the exhibition.
Taking the packs home we all played with ideas and came up with very different squares, all inspired by line, shape, form and textures we had seen at 78. We had fun experimenting and we hope you enjoy the range of pieces we have created - All the same but different.
