June Jessop
I have had a lifelong interest in all kinds of craft, developing an interest in painting in various mediums and over the last 25 years in patchwork and mixed media work. I have dyed my own fabrics to use as foundations for wallhangings, some of which are based on my paintings, using hand and machine stitch, block printing, screen printing and beading, and have also used traditional patchwork piecing methods in less traditional ways to create ‘art’ quilts. I have also created books based on card and paper, which I have then painted, stitched and embellished. I have recently been using plant material to create natural dyed pieces and have also ventured into rusting cloth using pieces of metal found in my garden.
I have been a member of Bedford Art Society for many years and have participated in their exhibitions. For a commission to the Society from Bedford Hospital I recently produced a piece of textile work which was included in a large collage of member’s work to represent ‘Bedford and it’s River’. This was presented to and hangs in a main public corridor at the Hospital.
I am also a member of the Quilter’s Guild, the Contemporary Quilt Group, ‘all Threaded Together’ and the Eastern Region Textile Forum for which I have produced site specific work for an exhibition at Denny Abbey in Cambridgeshire and for a theme-based juried exhibition at The Rhodes Gallery in Bishop’s Stortford.
