'Contrasts' at the Yarrow Gallery : 2018

Our last exhibition was held at the Yarrow Gallery, Oundle School, in March 2018. The title of the show referred to our contrasting styles, themes and techniques. Among the exhibits were textiles incorporating stitching, beading, shibori dyeing, applique, stencilling, collage and painting.

The gallery is a beautiful venue with a poignant history - the building was funded by the Yarrow family in memory of their son Eric, a former pupil at the school, who was killed on 8th May 1915 at Ypres. It was opened in 1918 as museum for science and the arts, becoming a permanent exhibition space in 1970. In recognition of this anniversary, several of us produced work based on our interpretation of this image of Ypres from the First World War. By clicking on the Exhibition 2018 tab you can access another page where you will see a small detail of the works and read the statements accompanying each piece.

Exhibition Photographs

As with our previous exhibitions, there was a series of challenge pieces, 12" square and canvas mounted. The challenge for this exhibition was to use a Harris tweed, shown in the photograph, and a silk of the maker's choice - fabrics with highly contrasting textures.
