My inspiration for this piece came from the triangular glass panels in the staircase at 78 Derngate, and from the straight-back chair designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
I constructed the piece by cutting triangles from furnishing fabric swatches and after basically machining them together used hand stitch for further joining. I stitched decorative braids on the vertical edges and then a cotton braid which I fixed with a long embroidery stitch. I fixed re-cycled covered furniture buttons to the joining points. To emphasise the triangular theme I fixed smaller felt triangles to the borders. As a final touch I frayed the edges and drew threads out to form an interesting finish to the edges of the piece.

My inspiration for this piece came from a clock in one of the display cases at 78 Derngate.
Using a hand-dyed yellow fabric background I constructed the clock using bias binding and stitch to create my own version in the Art Deco style.
